Confirmation

Confirmation preparation can be a transforming time of deepening faith, intense love, and developing your personal relationship with Christ. This year our program is going to look differently than we would wish. We do not yet have plans to meet in person at any point in preparation for confirmation this year. While this is not ideal and presents significant barriers, it also allows us an opportunity to foster a relationship between each sponsor and candidate to be one that will last beyond this preparation time. It also allows those who are often busy with other commitments to be flexible in how they complete this preparation program.

We invite you to prayerfully consider joining us on the journey to Confirmation! If you have any questions, or want more details please email cathleeni@hfkparish.org – or you can watch the recording of the informational zoom meeting.

Supplemental Sponsor Information Form: To use if you have registered without confirming a sponsor and just need to provide that information separately.

Sponsor Verification Form: for sponsors who are not currently registered/active members of HFK

Confirmation 2021: Will be a mix of independent study with the sponsor/candidate pair and parent/candidate groups, as well as large group zoom meetings lead by our priests and High School Youth Minister. See below for more details about each component of our program.

Confirmation Date (Dates): We will be preparing for an OCTOBER 2021 confirmation.

  • IF we are able to have one large ceremony with a bishop, it will be on Saturday October 9th at 11am.
  • If we need to have smaller masses with our parish priest performing confirmations, they will take place on the first three Saturdays in October: 10/2, 10/9, 10/16.

Zoom Sessions: We will meet on the following Sundays from 1-2pm via zoom.

  • Feb 21
  • March 14
  • April 25
  • May 16
  • June 13

Independent Study:

I will be emailing out 6 “sessions” for completion at home. Some of the sessions will be for candidates to complete with parents, and some will be for candidates to complete with sponsors. Each session is designed to take about an hour of time, and will include video content, discussion questions, and prayer.

Service component:

TBD: The goal of a service component of our confirmation preparation program is 3 fold:

  • Get involved in our parish community and experience a part of what being a part of a living Catholic community feels like.
  • Engage with service and outreach in order to experience the beauty of our Catholic Social Teaching and Jesus’ mandate to love our neighbors and serve those on the margins.
  • Grow in community with their peer group of faith through action in hopes that friendships formed in faith and service of others will sustain us throughout our lifetime.

due to pandemic restrictions I cannot mandate any specific service project, but I do ask that each candidate participate in one NEW service opportunity throughout the year and let me know when you do. Some examples of service this year might be: food distribution events, organizing a blood drive, working on local farms such as farmer frogs, providing meals for local shelters, etc.

Retreat Component:

TBD: The goal of our retreat component:

  • To retreat from the structures and pulls of daily life, in order to more clearly hear the voice of our Lord in our lives.
  • To experience and engage with our faith on a practical and emotional level and not just an intellectual level.
  • To build peer relationships based in faith.
  • To reflect on how the Lord has touched each of our lives in different ways.
  • To discern what areas of our life the Lord is callings us to something new.

This year we don’t have any plans for a traditional retreat. There is a possibility that as restrictions allow we might be able to offer some retreat opportunities later in the spring or the summer.

High School Candidates:

  • I recognize that we will most likely have some high school candidates for preparation. Once registration has happened and we have a better idea of the age split there is a possibility that some of the older high school kids will do a more age appropriate group study lead by Colin and Cathleen. We have to see how the age split of registration is before we make this determination. We will do our best to prepare our seniors for a confirmation date this coming spring before they go off to college!
